The UT3Rifle is a large cannon-minigun like weapon that fires toxic gel. The toxicity can vary from one race to another but is deadly to all none the less. Humans for instance have a greater immunity to the toxin than a Sangheili, but have a long detox span while the Sangheili are more susceptible to the toxin but have a larger reduction in detox time.
